Hi everyone, my trusty old Camco has finally bitten the dust, so now what? I've tried various others but always ended up going back to my old faithfull. I love its natural feel and lack of bells and whistles but after many bodge jobs to keep it going its had its time, not bad as I bought it back in the mid eighties (god I'm getting old!) So whats yours?

252 direct drive. Got one with strap as well but prefer the more positive feel of the link.

Premier 252 - got a DW 5000 tried all sorts, but revert back to the 252 all the time - link not strap. Just perfect for me - others turn their nose up at them! Though its difficult to attach to my Remo Mastertouch bass drum hoop!

DW 5000 (chain & baseplate). Took a bit of getting used to initially as it's a comparitively heavy action, but with time you can get a real positive and quick technique going on it.

Anyone remember the old Pearl P880? I liked that pedal too.

i picked up a Jacques Chappelle pedal last week and it is a thing of joy. Looks insane but really smooth and powerful. I'll take a picture tomorrow and post it.

Just bought a 2nd hand DW5000, MINT, pretty much brand new condition, with a bag, £90 delivered. Happy with that! Time to shift the big dog!

Well, as an extension of my last post, last night just before the encore the bleedin' spring snapped at the base where it uncoils to a hook, had to play our last song without a kick. The selfsame thing happened to my Tama Roadpro equivalent and I just thought it was simply because it was the cheaper alternative, but there must be a weak point in it where it straightens out before forming the hook, seriously tempted by the Drumnetics now, the lack of a spring to break is very appealing, unless it's possible to have a heavier gauge spring made, time to make a few calls, methinks...

Currently using the Pearl Powershifter I bought from Drumwright in 1997 when it 1st opened - great pedal, and has been totally reliable. Have also owned DW 9000's and 5000's, prefer the 5000 to be honest.

just recently swaped my old iron cobra for my mates dw 8000 and a bit of cash, as we much prefered each others pedals when we borrowed them....

They gave it a longer board as well. I prefer the IC's myself.

Pearl eliminator or Iron cobra! :)

For me the DW 9000s but the re released camco feels pretty close to the old camco I had.

I could never get on with a 252. Always called them a crotchet pedal! Plenty on here really rate them though. Must've been me?
Emmo Posted - 09/03/2012 : 01:42:25
Premier 252 strap version - the mark one. Best pedal I have ever used. However, having vintage Luddy kits now, have got used to the SK which is in itself a good responsive pedal - I just have to keep a can of WD40 in my case with it!!
paiste Posted - 05/03/2012 : 23:06:30
Only had a few pedals in my time. Still got the first one. An old 70's Tama. Looks very similar to Camco but different shaped foot plate and strap instead of chain. Really light and fast. In fact the leather strap broke in the late 80's and being a skint schoolkid bodged it with a webbing strap off a special edition pack of 10 memorex cassettes, and it's still there
Had one of those Premier EDP 300 pedals in the 90's, chopped it in for a double eliminator which I didn't get on with, and now have a double chain Big Dog. Fairly cheap and cheerful but after a bit of tweaking get on great with it.

I've got an old Pearl strap pedal that I really like...

Very basic but just works well.

JKDrummerDude Posted - 05/03/2012 : 12:06:33
I have the double pedal chrome cobras.

Tama have re-released the Camco pedal though. It's not cheap, but it is identical to the ones you see in practice rooms. Feels the same but um newer, but that's probably because the one in the shop was new, and not beaten to hell by everyone and his dog...

My first pedal was great - the cheap Pearl strap drive thing - smooth and quick. I had a couple of 252's over the years too, but the powerglide Iron Cobra's are all I want or need now. I don't like the new SpeedCobra thingies...
drummerboy123 Posted - 05/03/2012 : 11:06:38
At the moment I have a couple of those cheap fold down Yammies with the strap, and they are fantastic. Then there's my Yammie direct drive double pedal which again is very smooth and easy to play. However, I do miss my old DW5000 double pedal.

DW 5000 Strap Drive, much smoother than the chain drive.

I use a Mapex P500TW, it's cheap and (with my heavy footed style) Can take a good beating, but it is a double bass pedal so I'm not sure whether you would want them or not.

BUT! If you do want a double bass pedal and you have a lot of money then I would go for the Vinnie Paul Ddrum special, they are very heavy duty and they have a very easy adjustable beater cam and footboard, these will set you back a couple of hundred though.

So if you're like me (very little money) but want something that's adjustable, can take a beating and easy to set up then I would recommend the Mapex any day!

Hope I've helped!

Fermit :P

252 with the strap drive. I also have an Axis which I keep as a spare, and a kit in the studio with a Yamaha Flying Dragon, but the 252 is the best.

Iron Cobra Power gilde for me. DW8000 has a very similar feel.

Anyone used/uses any of the high priced ones? Trick, Demon Drive etc?

252 here, and 251s are good, too.

Iron Cobra flexi glide double for me. Bought one 10 years ago, sold it (stupidly). Had a dw 9000 for a while which I really liked, but swapped back to a second hand IC flexi and it's still amazing.

Premier 250 - but I did have a spring link D-ring thing break on one last year so I panicked and bought an Iron Cobra Jr which I do rather like too for heavier work.
gryphon Posted - 16/01/2012 : 22:51:46
Premier 250. Like the Weird Capt. I've had mine since the early 60's and have yet to feel the slightest need to replace it.

As he says, a little grease on a regular basis and it just keeps chugging along. With it's two part solid link it has the speed of a cam with a solid feel that I don't get from strap or chain drives.

Exactly the same for me!

Although my very favourite pedal is the accelerator pedal!

I've got one of the new Yamaha direct drive pedals... Smooth as silk, cheap as chips and nicely fuss free (and well built)....

The Iron Cobra is also a blood relative of the Camco. I think DW bought the machine tools and Tama bought the design.

dw7000, I've been using one for years, ticks all the boxes and not has single second of problems. Not a great lover of the Iron Cobra although it is undoubtedly well engineered and I do have one as a spare, adequate if required.

Premier 250, I have my original from 1960, and 4 others, just grease the fittings and she keeps on truckin'

250s rates high too

I also have a Swingster from the 30s, again greased the bearings, great pedal
