Adidas Sambas are great. However I'd love a comfortable all black trainer from smarter gigs. Used to have to wear smooth tread loafers which flew all over the pedals, and not in a good way.

Any trainers really, but I do tend to only buy vintage or reissues anyway, and they mostly have thin flat soles. If I had to pick I'd probably say Onitsuka Tigers. |

I wear skate shoes, not big bulky ones anymore, but I used to. Now I wear "es" skate shoes which are alot thinner and REALLY comfy. I tried to play in my steelies once after work... lol.
I cannot for the life of me stand playing barefoot! I dont know how people do it! |

Whatever matches what I'm wearing for the gig which ranges from shorts and a Hawaiian shirt to a tuxedo.
If I had my druthers, it would be boating moccasins with no socks. Probably because that's what I wear for practice, and most of my informal playing.

+1 for anything thin/light.
Heavy skate shoes and things like that definitely take away something from the feel of the kick pedal and how fast/accurately I can play it. |

Plain white pumps/plimsoles, lovely and flexible or my Kickers trainers if I fancy a bit more grip, if I'm in any other shoes I just go all nudey, not a fan of big clunky soles. |

Anything light, with as thin and flexible a sole as possible.
So yeah, converse for me are usuable, but still feel a bit heavier and thicker than I would like. I used to use boxing shoes/boots, but these days I tend to wear Onitsuka. |

put a band together at work for charity, all in fancy dress, i was Harry Hill for the day and borrowed some big ol brothel creepers they were a) very very comfortable b) surprisingly really good to drum in. Normally i drum in what ever i happen to be wearing or i may just slip the footwear off and just play in socks. |

Believe or not I have the most comfortable pair of Italian leather ankle high zip up boots, pointy toe the lot. They have a soft rubbery sole, not sure if it's actual rubber or leather. Best drumming shoes ever.
I have also been known to wear Caterpillar boots, Nike daps or flip flops, depending on my mood. As long as it feels good and I can do what I want with the pedal I'm not fussy. |

I used to use skate shoes but then found a technical prog metal band that wanted a lot of double kick, which made them feel too heavy. I bought some of those odd Vibram toed running shoes, and they're amazing. Like playing in bare feet, but with the added advantage of not getting splinters / broken glass / other debris in your soles when you try to walk offstage.
They divide opinion though - some people love them, others hate them. They can be a bugger to get on too... |

Down to my last pair of Macbeth Regal 2s with black leather upper. Pretty much impossible to get now so it'll be the blackest pair of DCs or Etnies when they wear out. |

As daily wear I usually wear skater type shoes but find them a bit wide and clumsy for drumming. I bought a pair of these a while back for £12 from Sports Direct... really comfy, but quite 'dainty' and thin soles, they feel excellent for drumming

However, I did play t'other day in my work shoes - flat, hard plastic soles - slide technique was great, super fast doubles. I may have to look at something with a less grippy soles (work shoes & combat trousers don't really go together ). |

I tend to wear Vans, D.C's, Etnies etc (Skate shoes for the un-initiated).
Or sometimes a cheap pair of those F1 shoe knock offs, like sippers and really comfy with plenty of feel.

I'm too tight to get my purple Converse all sweaty and horrible so I wear some converse-a-likes that I bought from Primark for about a fiver.
It's partly to do with the fact that the "image" suits a poppy/punky/rocky band well too.

Thin soled old knackered trainers - my wife won't let me wear them - so they live in my hardware bag. Only prob is the grip has all gone so they're lethal on a damp slippy load in /out |

I bought some Converse recently when my trusty ecko reds bit the dust, but they don't have the same feel or give. Luckily I found another pair of my favourites on eBay so am wearing them in a bit ready for my next gig. It's funny how footwear which may appear to be very similar can be so different to play in. |

Never had an issue with any footwear except when i joined my first country band, went out and bought some genuine Texas cowboy boots with cuban heels and long pointy toes, they lasted just the one gig,, through the eighties i used to wear leather Oxfords with real leather soles, slippery as a seals ar*e but i play heel up so it wasn't too bad,, those things that Neil Pert uses looks like diving shoes,, |
