Great place to be when the weather's as nice as it was - I moved back a few weeks ago, just in time! My lunch breaks were getting progressively longer last week, though one was ruined by 'annoying man who brings guitar to picnic'.

Did both last week during that wonderful week of glorious sunshine, whilst staying on the outskirts of bristol, nevewr realised quite what a beautiful city Bristol is, despite the massive rebuilding caused by the last unpleasantness with the Germans. !!!
another poster mentions Portishead , I went there too, found it as Dull and Dreary as the band that bears its name

^ His Dad Marc was too, he invented Rigging Block making machines for the Royal Navy's dockyards and built the tunnel which now carries the East London line at Rotherhithe, the first tunnel under a river.

Spain has more than its share of interesting looking bridges.

One I like is in North London, Paddington Basin or summat, it is made of pivoting trapezoidal steel units which lie flat from one bank to the other, then roll up like a Party Hooter when you stop blowing it, or like a woodlouse, and this allows boats through. The architectural engineering firm who designed it are on the south embankment very close to Tower Bridge, and the had a beautiful model of it in their window for ages.

The M25 Queen Elisabeth Bridge at Dordfart is pretty ugly but gives a grand view of the Thames when you are in a high vehicle, likewise the view of Portishead Docks from the M5 bridge is pretty good.

Tops of the towers are inelegant. The span is awe inspiring though.

+1 4 Bridges.. i particularly like the way the "towers" lean backwards enabling a horizontal road deck
