the time has come to finally accept my days of playing are pretty much over. it's a sad start to this post isn't it?!
after 20 years of playing and much lovely advice from this forum, i'm selling my equipment. i dont play anymore and my lovely seven month old daughter is my life now. my choice, but still sad!
- premier genista in silver sparkle (this will be sold with my own tears thrown in for free). 10 years old roughly, as new, all hardcased. the best kit i ever played
- around 4 or 5 proper good quality cymbals, zildjians and sabians, crashes, HHs and rides
- in ear monitoring system (sadly not wireless)
- bongos with stands
- premier hardware
- ace DW snare, hardcased.
i don't havee loads to sell, but enough:
and a few other little bits. will probably put on ebay, but should i sell everything separate, eg one auction per cymbal, or just do the lot? hardware with the kit or on it's own? how do you post a 21" ride?!
all thoughts welcome...

I've posted (and received) many cymbals larger than 20" and they've all been fine as long as you use a good amount of bubblewrap and cardboard to reinforce the shape. |

You might also find your daughter gets into the drums !
One of my girls (9 yr old) has picked up the sticks and is even going to do Stick it to MS with me !!
So you might not be keeping it just for you ....... |

DONT DO IT!!!! Youl only find yourself tapping on things with various kitchen utensils at some point and regret you didnt hold on to them. My mrs and i are expecting our first child in a couple of months. Obviously its always going to be a priority but i dont think i could ever let go of my tubs. Its a huge chunk of my life!!!

I would keep it too for its sentimental value.
I sold my beloved kit years ago to a mate and always regretted it.Luckily 15 years later I bumped into a mutual mate who said he wanted to sell it.
I bought it back and one of my sons used it later for his gigs...40 years of use and a bit of family history. |

If you aren't skint and need the money I would suggest putting it all in storage. Trust me, many here have learned that these wonderful little people won't be tiny forever, and sure as the sun rises in the east, someday in about 12-15 years you'll be looking to get back into drumming.

Original Genistas in those sizes?  Already fetching good money, but in fifteen years, when you want to start again, think what they'll be worth then! I packed up a few months after buying a gorgeous Prem Elite set way back in time and I KNOW I should have kept them. Slacken the heads off, wrap 'em up and store 'em! |

It was my experience roughly twenty years ago: birth of my son and I thought: I'll NEVER touch any drums again... Approximately 15 years later (my son was out of the woods in the meantime) it infected me again and it costed my a lot, to buy back my previously owned drumset. Sentimental me ...

Two Rogers big R and a Gretsch - various snares and a couple of bags of cymbals here. It's her inheritance...( there won't be much else )

Just wait 'til she's older mate. When my 8 Y-O granddaughter visits, I have to set some of the Prem kit up in the garage for her to have ago on. I told her dad, my son, that I'll make her a mini kit -- he's not keen on the idea!! |

Or wrap foam pipe insulation around the edge of a cymbal then box it. Sad to hear you are having to sell up, but a good reason for it! |

Or you could fold heavy cardboard over the bubblewrap to make a custom cover - I had a 24" delivered like this OK. Just make sure you protect the edges. |

I'd sell everything individually - e.g. the Genista will likely be of interest to more experienced types, who tend to buy shell packs as they are sorted for cymbals, snares and hardware and maybe just fancy a change of BD and toms (or an additional set). If you are advertising everything via a 'classified' type ad, you can always alert potential buyers to the other stuff you have to sell. |
