Interesting stuff and great photo. Sidney Camm designed the great inter-war biplane fighters like Hart and Nimrod, then WW2 Hurricanes, Tempests and Typhoons, then post war jets including the Hunter and then the prototype of the Harrier, the Hawker P1127. An incredible range of design work by any standards!

only got a couple of photos from him during the war:

guard duty: https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/391626_10150453813576276_522751275_11072010_240744623_n.jpg

Hanging out with the lads (second from left): https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-snc7/391670_10150453808711276_522751275_11071996_169045550_n.jpg

He was a technician working on hurricanses and spitfires during the war. Was in the BEF when France fell and was evacuated from a place just north of Dunkirk then sent straight to Burma just before it was invaded (can you see a pattern emerging here?) then to Singapore just in time to see that invaded.

He stayed in the RAF all his adult life, started off working on biplanes and ended up working on Lightnings. Pretty amazing time to be an aviation mechanic, seeing the evolution of the modern aircraft first hand!

Think i might call my first born Spitfire, such an iconic plane and word.

Yep, great pic Swampy! That'll be quite an exciting restoration project if they manage to unearth those Spitfires!

Saw that last week; it will be great if they have been located.
