I am clearing up the workshop and I have some bare FEPOS shells in the following sizes which are edging towards the skip (one of each):

12" x 9 3/4"
13" x 10"
13" x 10 3/4"
13" x 11"
16 x 16"
There's also a 22 x 14" which has been outside for a couple of weeks but looks OK. I may well find some more shells in the gloom.

Free to a good home, as long as they leave my humble fenland dwelling asap. I could take them up to the Jobeky festival if necessary

Just want to say a big Thanks to Pip for sorting me out. It's greatly appreciated!! And Jeremy thanks again for the initial offer. Cheers guys!

Nah probably won't be at the show, getting grief from the missus about the time I'm spending on band/drum related stuff so I'm behaving myself and staying at home...

I'll text you Saturday when I'm on my way over

Pip, thank you for the kind offer, an old Oly shell should be perfect as it should be similar construction to the one I'm repairing. I will send you a mail shortly!

OK Bjorn

Mr Sharklaar, are you going to the Jobeky show? I can take the shells up there if you are. If not, I'll see you on Saturday.

Jeremy if you're about this Sunday I might well come over and collect it then? Would probably be afternoon some time, got a late gig Saturday night.

That should be fine mate. PM me and I'll send you directions.

Bjorn, Pip's kind offer may be a better one as the shell should be the right thickness.

If it helps, I've got a 22 Oly scrap shell here that I'd be happy to cut. It to has a ripped out hole so useless for anything else. If you'd like a piece drop me a line at pipandkat AT btinternet DOT com
Th0mas25 Posted - 23/04/2012 : 22:48:56
OK, sorry for the delay Jeremy. It's a Prem 3 ply shell and the rough hole is about 2" square but will I will have to cut away and clean up each ply a little further. If it's possibe to send a 6x6" or 8x8" bit that'd be great, as it might take a couple of attempts. Again, only if it's no bother and no-one wants it intact. If someone (Shark?) wants to take the lot then fair enough, no worries.

Dogface, I hear ya, but as mentioned in the first post, they're FEPOS and were otherwise destined for the skip. Also, your method sounds good but I'm not sure if it'll be strong enough in this case, because it's a very thin vintage shell and the spur has to be attached to this area. That's why I'd like to try, with a spare piece of shell, to separate the plies, and build up the repair in layers.

OK mate
If your mate lives in Ely I'll drop them round.
Sharklaar Posted - 23/04/2012 : 21:35:03
I don't really delve that deep into the fens much... although I work in Peterborough and my dad works in Cambridge. I also have a mate who I believe lives in Ely, I can possibly arrange something.... I'll let you know if I can sort it. Cheers

Yes, though it looks like the 22's for the chop
I'm about 75 minutes away from you, near Ely. Do you ever come this way? With the price of petrol as it is, it might be cheaper if I stick them in a box and sort out a courier.

Hi Jeremy, I'd be interested in a piece of the 22" shell please. Yes, I said a piece That's only if no-one takes it complete and you're OK about chopping it up of course.

The bass on my current project has a hole ripped out where one of the spurs should be. I'm going to try to place a new piece of wood in, or layer/laminate it in... but need something with the same curve.
Let me know if no-one takes it and you're able to cut a bit out and send it to me (I'll happily pay postage of course... just seems a bit of a waste to buy and pay P&P on a whole bass drum on eBay when I only need a piece!)

Cutting up a good bass drum shell to fix holes in another seems a bit of a waste. I've fixed fairly large holes in shells and you really don't need a curved piece of wood, you just need a piece of wood thick enough to accomodate the curve - then you sand it to the correct curve after it's glued in place. 80 grit paper will shape it pretty easily. It makes the job easier if you select some fairly soft wood. Don't think about using ash or oak if you want it to be easy.

awesome.

It is! We have a ton of the stuff... most of it mine from 25-30 odd years ago, plus all the newer stuff my son's collected so far including lots of Star Wars lego. It's not cheap but I can't think of many other toys that can give so much enjoyment over so many years. I don't think you ever quite grow out of it

So sorry Fen, had such a good sleep today and ended up playing with lego with my boy I totally forgot... I'm now back at work for another night. I'll check it out tomorrow though, cheers!

Thanks, I'm just finishing my shift, will get a look at the damage again when I get up this afternoon and provide some more info, cheers!
FenTiger Posted - 21/04/2012 : 23:57:14
No problem Bjorn. How big a piece do you need?
How thick is the shell that you want to patch? I might have something the same thickness if I keep looking.
