Posted - 30/04/2012 : 17:29:22 This does appear to be scapegoatism of the highest order - they were nearly all at it.
I'm not in favour of Jail terms for these victimless crimes. She should pay every penny back and will loose her job and her future prospects.
Where were the checks, balances and audits? What blithering incompetents allowed this to happen? That is where the problem lies.
If a shop keeper left his door open every night and moaned about theft would we not get a bit angry with him as well as the thieves?
Why have this archaic system anyway.
Let all MP's have a small suite of rooms at the old GLC or the Barbican etc and give them a rail card.
Eliminate expenses as much as possible - mostly it is for travel and accommodation.
Then regular audits and checks. the Rich tories could always go and find there own place - just don't let them claim for it. It's how the rest of the public sector works. |

If she is at it, it makes a mockery of people with real mental health issues, and that alone should be an offence.
Hadn't thought about that. Good point! |

Hang on. I'm confused.
Where are the PC Police? Why has no one jumped in with, 'You don't understand mental health issues', 'This poor woman is breaking down and needs help not this ', 'You wouldn't be saying this if this was your Mother'....and so on.
Or is all of Dolbearland in agreement that the court has had the wool pulled?
She is a thief and should be treated as such.
I've been more interested in the Murdoch revelations via the Leveson inquiry. The Huuuge scandal that alledgedly ( or possibly- according to Michael Portillo ) that the Tories via cameron, Hunt and the poor fellow who fell on his sword last week... had a deal going pre-election, that when they got in, they'd facilitate the BskyB deal and as a side dish, emasculate the BBC for Murdoch.
My favorite quote ( from 'Murdoch's revenge' )
'Did you think Cameron was a 'lightweight' ?'
- ' Not then, no...'
re the expenses - daft biddy. But what about Laws and all the others who managed to wriggle away with an 'oops, sorry, I'll pay it back of course' and a few months out of the public eye ( or very much in it in the case of our current 'flipping' chancellor )
She's a scapegoat - and I think that the knowledge of that might have sent her over the edge. All of them should be paying back anything that benefited them - particularly by 'flipping' the home they were claiming for. Whether it wasn't technically against the rules or not - it was still a massive scam. |

Posted - 28/04/2012 : 11:45:44 She's got "anxiety issues". Most people would be anxious if they were going to be on trial of what amounts to theft from the taxpayer.
No doubt if she were working class she'd be banged up already - what about those who stole trivial amounts (bottle of water etc) in the riots and are in jail.
Once again there are rules for the ruling class and rules for everyone else.

Posted - 28/04/2012 : 11:37:17 Perhaps her sudden attack of anxiety has more to do with going to prison, as opposed to paying the money back. She will be aware that Jim Devine the Labour MP got 16 months for fiddling less than £8000. Hers is ten times that amount. She faced a prison sentence whether she paid the money back or not. False accounting is a serious offence that cannot be put right by simply paying back the money, although it may have had a bearing on her sentence if she had done so. Now she cant be jailed. Shes wept her way out of it.

Posted - 28/04/2012 : 11:15:16 That's all we need another MP with mental health issues.. |
| Th0mas25 |
Posted - 28/04/2012 : 10:57:44 The mental health issues do seem rather 'convenient' but who's to say, she might have problems and I hope she gets help. She should still be made to pay back what she fiddled though! |

Posted - 28/04/2012 : 10:55:29 You don't understand mental health issues. This poor woman is breaking down and needs help not this. You wouldn't be saying this if this was your Mother.
and so on. |

Posted - 28/04/2012 : 10:05:48 If they siezed all her assetts now, with a view to selling them to recover the amount she claimed, I am sure she would make a miraculous recovery! |

Posted - 28/04/2012 : 09:54:49 Things like this bring out the worst in me. Lock her up in a secure compound if she's unwell, take away all her privilages. When she's "fit" to lead a normal life she can start to pay back what she owes. |

I just don't believe a feckin word these days that pertains to politicians.
She never displayed these 'symptoms' before she was caught, hmmmmmmm
Just do the decent thing and pay the money back, you or your representatives. |
