I currently play a full Paiste set up, (signature hats and 505 crash and ride), i love the sound of the hats, crisp and sharp, but the crash and the ride i find to be a bit plain and boring, not much texture or character. Been looking into Dream cymbals, which line of dreams would you recommend for someone playing funk/jazz, looking for good clarity on the ride but with something a bit more interesting? would the bliss ride be a bit washy? anyone had any experience with Dream cymbals,
any help much appreciated. |

Been through a lot of them. I've liked all of them and loved a few that I've kept.
Now play 14" Bliss hats, 17" vintage bliss crash ride, 24" mini cup bliss ride and 20" Bliss crash/ride.
I'm still looking for a nice 19" vintage bliss and a 20" Dark Matter Flat Earth Ride...

I play Dream Vintage Bliss 15" Hats and 18" Crash/ Ride, I can't fault them they are amazing. I play loud rock and am a really heavy hitter and have no problems with their durabiliy as others have mentioned.
The other half of my set up is an 80's K Ride and a newer K 18" crash.
I intend to have a full set of K's but can't justify getting rid of the Dreams as they are so good. |

I got a Dream 12" mini china really cheap through drumshop - just so I had a china to take on tour which I could fit in my snare bag. It sounds great and I had some compliments on how good it sounded. That's my only Dream experience and I can't recommend it highly enough. Not sure what the crashes and rides are like though. |

Stuart, are the 505s Green Logo? If yes are you selling them?

Just to build upon what's been said so far, I've played some Dream cymbals that I have absolutely loved and then some that are just so so...
Can't say enough to try before you buy! |

My fiancée recently bought me an Energy 20" Crash/Ride. I wanted a smaller ride for smaller gigs and that was better with brushes (My 22" Istanbul Tradtional Heavy ride is a bit much for that kind of thing). It's great; nice wash with brushes, good attack with sticks and light enough to lug about. Also played it as a second ride in full covers band rehearsal the other night and it slotted in really nicely. Couldn't quite keep up with the heavier numbers but madew up for it by sounding great when crashing it. |

Yeah I'm not sure about it to be honest. I think I really need a ride more than a ride/crash, so I doubt I'll pick it up.
I've currently got 13" Hats, 14" Crash and a 17" Crash (all Bliss), but my ride is terrible, made a huge mistake in buying before hearing! |

Got a Contact 18" crash ride and it doesn't suit me at all. Keep meaning to list it but never get around it as I feel I'm being harsh on it.
It's my first Dream, my first crash/ride and my first 18" crash and/or ride so I doubt I've given it a fair crack of the whip. It's all a bit too "different" for me. It appears I know what I like and I like what I know. Stuck in the mud or what! Nothing wrong with the cymbal. it's just too "out there"! |

You've read my mind good man, I just need to get myself over to the local stockist to try them out, problem is I personally can't judge cymbals until I'm playing them in a band. |

Crash used for the first time yesterday, wasn't particularly impressed when testing on my own in my room but when I used it with the band, it really shone through. I'm using it for a riding crash, think I'll get myself another crash from Dream soon, but something brighter and faster. |

Tried, it is louder and more defined but they are still relatively quiet. |

I've had and still do have lots of the Bliss range, have the 14" hats, 21" and 22" rides, 19" crash ride and 17" crash. Also had the 20" ride (gone to monkeythedrummer). They're all beautiful.
Used to use the 22" ride as my primary ride, for everything from soul/funk to pop to big band and small band jazz. It worked really well, but I wanted something heavier for some of the music, so now I split between a K Constantinople Big Band ride and the Bliss - the K Con cost nearly 3 times as much, and is heavier but not necessarily "better"! The Contact should do just the job if you need something heavier.
I find the 14" hats fantastic, just a bit too quiet for gigs where you need serious volume, but the tone is absolutely beautiful. Used them two weeks ago for a soul/funk gig to an audience of 200 and they were sweet, just needed hitting a bit harder!
I'd highly recommend them. |

I've just bought a pair of 13" Hi hats, beautiful sounding. Also got a 19" crash in the post which I'm hoping I like the sound of... Unable to test this one unfortunately. |

dreams differ greatly (as do most cymbals) but having heard a large range of em i can say they really span a wide range. You MUST try em out first. The bigger rides i have heard tend to have a slight trashy/china quality about them, dare i say it, like many Spitz cymbals i have heard. Amazing for the money! |

While you're at it, if you want really nice sounding dark cymbals for a good price, try the Stagg CS range. Similar to the Dream Bliss and in about the same price range. Don't confuse these with DH or SH Staggs |

In my experience the Bliss range are very dry compared to Contacts which have a very nice clean cutting sound but that's pretty much all I've tried. Broken 2 contact crash/rides now though so I doubt I'll be buying any more. Shame really, the first one I had I really liked. the second just didn't have the qualities of the first (replaced under warranty) but both ended up cracking on the lathe lines. |
