I had to travel down to Ascot the other day to retrieve this lovely. It's a late 80's Tama Artstar II in black lacquer, 100% canadian hardrock maple shells. I have one of these in monster sizes, with two 24" bass drums (one undrilled) and toms from 8" to 18". They are lovely smooth sounding drums, with a well rounded tone to 'em. This is a bit of an unusual beastie, cause it's got a tiny 20" bass drum, toms are 10" 12" and a 14" floor tom. The 12" that came with it was a budgety Es but I managed to get a 12" i gave a matea few year back. Just cleaning her up now, absolutely wonderful kit, the Rolls royce of Tama's from their golden era..

Retrieved the 12" off an old mate t'other day, all in all, this cost me a grand total of-£550.. |

Hmmmm.....still pondering.....they are very deep, those toms, and not easy to place over a 24".
But then I have no other kits with a 24", and no "Modern" kits, which a Tama will be, compareable to my Premiers.

If I was into 24's and it was local to me, I'd be onto that like a fat kid on a chocolate. As Mcmaul says, it's just the fittings that the last of the line had that were a little different. Lugs and claws were the same as Artstar II, but with normal rods instead of T's. Die cast hoops, and with that particular kit it's got the Starcast suspension mounts that were an option. Mounts and spur assemblies are the same as Starclassics.
And the little black number is a cracker. That's an early one, with the painted interiors and hex rod tom L rods... |

£700 for 24x16, 10x10, 12x11, 14x13, 14x15 and 16x16"......I am having problems restraining myself.
I like white kits.

Just different fixings and badge I thin, Jon. They were the last of the line and ran alongside starclassics for a bit. I love Artstars, they do look their bst in titanium or black lacquer for my money, though. This ones cleaning up a treat, the rolls royce of Tama's. |
