Im trying to construct a Live gig rig to do what the title says:
1) Live-in ear-monitoring - takeing a feed from the PA & from the rest of me other electronic gubbins
2) Drum Triggers, with an option for triggering everything, or just bassdrum
3) A playback sorce for backing tracks and a click tracks.
Just wondering if anyone else has something slimmer that they use and if anyone has any good advice on constructing such a rig. Thanks

Posted - 08/02/2012 : 22:10:03 The most difficult bit is the monitoring. Getting a rackable mixer for a reasonable price is a nightmare!
For playback the best I've used is an HD24. However these are pricey, I have an Alesis DR4D which is pretty good and you can get them really cheap now.
With regard to triggering, it depends how many you want... if it's just a few then stick to something simple like an SPDS but if you want to do a whole kit you'll need to get a sampler and either a drum module or a midi controller. Until recently I've been using a TD10 which was good but I had to mount it on a rack shelf, which took up loads of space, made the rack bigger... blah blah blah.
I've just bought a DM5. By all accounts not as good as the TD10 but given the fact that all it's doing is acting as a midi interface for my sampler I'm hoping it'll do the job. Plus it's only 1u!
Hope that helps. It's taken me ages to tweak my electrics into something thats practical for live work but it is doable.
