(The kick pad from my Yamaha Dtxpress) - As per the title - many miss hits, but unpredictable.

On examination, the foam sandwiching the piezo, on the beater side, had become permanently indented, leaving effectively an air pocket under the rubber outer (which simply peels off).

Instant cure (found by scouring the web!): put a CD under the rubber outer. It's exactly the right diameter, and transmits the beater hits through to the piezo again. Cost = nowt!
