I recently baught a new set of hats - Sabian 13" AAX X-celerator hats - and have noticed that there is a significant gap between the edge of the cymbal and the hi hat clutch. Now can this cause key holing from the inpact of metal-on-metal? I would hate to see my new hats get wrecked like this! Is there anything I can do to prevent such a thing, or is it a problem that doesnt exist?
Some would say it can, some would say it's never caused them a problem. I would say that in 20 years of playing I've never had a problem. Take from that what you will.
It wouldn't hurt to sleeve the clutch spindle with heat shrink, electrical tape or something similar for piece of mind regardless of whether it is a problem or not :o)
