On Wednesday night I went to see "The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway", a Genesis tribute band at the SECC, Glasgow. FANTASTIC! I can understand how their music wouldnt be very popular with most 17 year olds, but I love Genesis.
They performed the lamb lies down album in its entirity and was insanely good! The singer, looked and did everything the same as Peter Gabrial would of done back then, including all the costtumes, voices, masks and dance moves around the stage!
The drummer looked EXACTLY like Phil Collins, with the same haircut and even a full beard just like Phil!
If you ever get the chance to go see them, do it! It was great music and is the closest thing to seeing Peter Gabrial and Genesis live!

I saw Musical Box do the same show a few years ago, they were astounding, the drummer WAS Phil Collins, it was spooky.

The band David saw WAS The Musical Box !!

(And yes, they are awesome - I've seen their Selling England by the Pound show, and Trick of the Tale show (with a stunning Collins/Bruford doppelganger double act,) as well as the Lamb Lies Down ... utterly incredible.)

Saw them in Bristol this week. Haven't listened to Genesis for years, but did so a lot, especially the Gabriel/Hackett era stuff, when I was at university. I had heard about The Lamb live show with the 1200 projected slides and the bonkers costumes, etc. so thought it would be worth a punt.

Amazing drumming! Anyone who discounts Phil Collins as a drummer needs to watch this. Particularly to notice the composition / orchestration of the drumming parts. Fun kit too - 6 or 7 piece plus 4 low tuned timbales, glock, vibes, tubular bells, temple blocks and other bits.

The singer in The Musical Box does an amazing impersonation of Peter Gabriel. The sound and the vocal inflections are all spot on. The whole band really, but mimicking an instrument part and sound, albeit very impressive, is not quite as amazing as mimicking a vocal performance to this degree.

And: now I know exactly where Spinal Tap drew all their inspiration for overblown stage props ;-)

I read somewhere that Peter Gabriel took his kids to see them so they could see what he used to do in his younger days.

I saw a tribute band called Genesish recently, apart from a few dodgy newer songs they were fantastic, I've never seen a "pub" band bring the house down like they did.
The singer who also plays a mean guitar did quite a lot of drumming as well, he was limited but really helped to fill out the sound.
Worth a look if they are in your area.

The Musical Box's drummer is left handed, or at least plays a left handed setup.

I think you may both be remembering it correctly - The Musical Box have had at least three drummers "playing" Phil Collins over the years, so it's entirely possible that one or more of them was left-handed.

I was at the Glasgow gig too, was a great show.

As others have said it was The Musical Box and the recreations they do are fantastic. I saw them for the Selling England... show a few years back and it's a different drummer they have for this tour.

Genesish are good too, saw them in Glasgow last year, the singer walked through the crowd with his imaginary lawnmower before I Know What I Like...

I've seen another Genesis tribute band, from Italy, think they were called The Watch (?). What a singer, sounded exactly like PG..shame he looked like Marty Feldman, but what a voice

He did the same at South Shields the other month, some guy jumped out of the crowd, threw his top off and started gyrating with him at the front of the stage
