I picked up a few drum bits and bobs a couple weeks back and amongst the haul were these Premieresque spurs. Obviously made by someone with a bit of metalwork knowledge and whilst being a little crude they do the job just fine. If you cant afford the real thing make your own!

Agree! I was given a cowbell and post to clamp it to a bass drum hoop, this was made for a drummer by a metal worker in Royal Navy dockyard using Admiralty Brass, a hard and high quality alloy. It is competently made, as you would expect, but the cowbell was made with all faces flat and parallel, no taper or curve. Sadly it sounds horrible, completely lacking any fundamental, just a nasty ringy overtone.
