Hello! If you could have lessons with any living drum teacher in the UK, who would it be and why? I look forward to some interesting responses!

Hi I am lucky because I have found the teacher who really inspires me.
He is by far the most organised, knowledgeable teacher that I have ever been to.
He breaks things down well, has a great way of explaining things to me in a way that makes sense and is a phenomenal player with great technique.
His name is Geoff Fry and is well known on this forum.
I don't need to go to anyone else as I have found the guy to bring my playing on.
A good teacher will bring your playing on leaps and bounds and since I have been going to Geoff I find myself practicing more than ever....at stupid o clock most of the time!!!
This is because I am inspired again.
Very highly recommended and a top bloke as well.

There can be only one politically correct answer to this question: Mike Dolbear of course

Bob Armstrong.

Once a fortnight, used to get up at 5.00am after a gig the night before to drive from Skegness to Hornchurch because 9.00am was the only slot he had open. Worth ever penny, worth every second.

Very helpful.

A plus 1 for Bob Armstrong here. Loving every minute of learning I spend with that guy! He too is an encyclopedia, especially for what I'm trying to do. He's been there and done it all. Just full of experience and knowledge. And his technique? Ooooh myyy!

My point is that there will be a few big names mentioned, the same big names that are always mentioned when something like this is asked - Steve White, Bob Armstrong, Craig Blundell, Gavin Harrison, Rich Wilson etc - but there are loads of other great teachers out there that I'm sure no-one has ever heard of. I'll answer the original question. Jimmy O'Kane. "Who?"

Craig Blundell.

He's the equivalent of an adrenaline injection to the heart in terms of energy & enthusiasm.
No wonder he limits himself to 3 a day usually.

I got your point and it was valid - I was getting at that you could have also answered his question at the same time (which you now have!) as making the very accurate point

Blunders is very good. He's a natural teacher and very patient

I would love to have lessons from Bob Armstrong. Legendary. I have to say my current teacher, Dominique Pizzinat is fabulous, and again, very patient.

We are very lucky in the UK and have lots of great drum teachers and many do not get the recognition they deserve.

As Vic Firth says " drum teachers who teach beginners are the most important as they are teaching all the great drummers of the future" there the ones who deserve are thanks.

I encourage my students to have lessons with all kinds of different teachers as I think you can learn from everybody. Ash Soan is going to teach you something different to Dave Weckl etc

A good teacher/student relationship is about connection and reaching goals, I have been very lucky to study with some great UK teachers and teach some of the top UK drummers but it's not down to my teaching but their talent.

Find somebody that you feel happy with and you can reach the goals you are after.

I will be offering tuition/courses soon. They will be based on the side of the business I feel comfortable and most qualified to talk about which is recording.

All the best

Ash

This is pretty much exactly what I do now, every other tuesday up at 4.30am if I go to sleep at all after a residency monday night gig in Hereford drive to Romford for 9am lesson and then drive back. And it is totally worth it, if I was further away I would simply get up earlier.
