It does seem harsh, though there may be more to it, councils normally investigate quite thoroughly and take nuisance times and measurements!
Unless a local councillor is amongst the neighbours!! |

The sweet smell of bull$hit
£3,000 on a kit, they could have got a top end Roland for that and not had any bother from the neighbours. Can you tell I don't have any sympathy

| This cannot be the full story. Playing for 20 mins no later than 7pm cannot warrant a noise abatement order. At the very least the neighbours would know when to expect it to end. |

Taken at face value, this is why teenagers should be chained to the TV playing COD the moment they get home from school.
£3K on a drum kit kept in a shed at the bottom of the garden? There must be some serious money in Tewkesbury, and some indulgent parents, though it is a great shame for the boy whatever the truth of the situation. |

I like the photo of a FEPOS kit to demonstrate what a £3,000 kit might look like. |

I get parents call me in a vain attempt to buy a vintage kit for their offspring 'who is really good'!!
As a parent I point them in the direction of a kit in a box from Ebay until the kid proves that it is not just a whim as I did with my boys.
A practice pad is a good foundation to build from.

| Nothing better than putting a kid off a musical instrument and turning them to a games console and headphones. What more mental stimulation can they need! |

I've had issues with my neighbours in the past and you have to put the boot on the other foot, i wouldn't want a drummer living next to me . There are many ways of practicing at very low volumes, I've issued my appologies and taken measures to be a better neighbout now playing a muted kit (approx 80% volume reduction) and after 7.00pm only ever play on the practice pad.
I don't think this article is telling the whole storey and we all have to do what needs doing to get along together! |

I had the police at the door years ago because it was a hot summers day and i was playing with the window open and the neighbours complained. At that time i was able to play for about an hour at a time but never after 8. Part of it was my fault and i know that. But it turned out they had been round before when i had the window shut and spoke to my next door neighbour and her reply was that she shouted at the kids louder than i played. |

If the family live in an estate with many houses all close together then you do have to look from the angle of what if everyone had their 20 mins of making a racket - there would be constant unsociable noise, all day for nearly every day. So it could be the neighbours are saying why should he get special treatment. I love drumming but when the guy at the house behind ours used to play in his conservatory everyone was up in arms, including myself. It really is not a nice noise if you are a casual onlooker/ listener, even if just for 20 mins. It is the last thing you want when you get in from work or want to relax in your garden. . My neighbour lost a house sale as the guy sparked up whilst he was showing potential buyers round his house. That was the final straw and luckily the other drummer decided to take my neighbours "advice" and got an electric kit.
Deffo sounds more too it than what the paper is saying as well. |

| I have been in touch with the local paper and have asked them to pass on my contact details. Some time ago I wrote about the "noise" issue in Drummer and really don't believe that we have the whole story yet. |

| I know I have told this story before on this forum, but it always makes me smile. When I had my first drum kit (1967 I think), I used to play them during the day in my dad's garage. Mrs Chiltern, a neighbour from across the road, started a petition to the council to get me to stop. My dad signed it. |

| Why would anyone spend that sort of money on a kit that will live in a garden shed and inevitably go rusty?! Or worse, get stolen! A set of foam or rubber silencer pads would have saved a lot of grief in the first place! Some people just don't have the first idea. |
