Looking to replace my stagg snare drum case for something a little better and im torn between 2
The protection racker 14 x 5.5 and the ahead armor, which would you go for ?
Also i cant seem to find one that fits my size drum, the chad smith is a 14 x 5 and the closest i can get in a case seems to be 14 x 5.5 |

I have both, and both are as good as each other.
Yes 14x5 cases are no longer made. |

| I have both, and I have to say I'm very impressed by the Ahead cases. That said I'm also very impressed by the Pro Rack cases, I have some that have done 15 years of constant gigging and are still going strong. Not much help to you, but either should be more than fine. |

| As there is so little to choose between the two, I'd go with the Pro Rac, just for the years of experience, nobody has had much of a chance to try breaking an Ahead yet! |

They are both great cases - I would recommend them both without hesitation.
I only use Pro Racket over Ahead because I already had two PR sets and it's nice having them match. |

I'll say Ahead just to be different I love their products and the cases look great.
That said I own PR cases and have no complaints!! |

| I've got a full set of Hardcases. I'm seriously considering getting a set of Protection racket cases for the weight saving alone! |

I have both and theres nothing much between them. The Aheads seem to be more accommodating size wise. I have a 16" floor tom thats a very tight fit in the PR case due to large leg boxes, but has plenty of room in the Ahead. The guy who reviewed the Ahead cases in Rhythm made a point about the bass drum case being awkward as the sides collapse as you try to put the drum in owing to the zip arrangement. I lay the bass drum on its side and slip the case over the drum, turn the whole lot over and zip it up. Simple. I dont know why the reviewer didnt figure it out. Mines then go in a wheeled flight case so dont get much wear, but both seem indestructible. Buy either with confidence. |

I have one of those too and I'd definitely recommend it. I also have a Pro Rack wheeled hardware case and I'd recommend that too. I really should get off the fence.... |

After actually having the cases in my hand (pro racket and ahead) I loved them both, well built, fleece lined and the zips were very well made and strong but whilst at the shop I noticed they had the hardcase stuff, really well built and obviously being a hard case seemed to offer good protection, so much so the guy put a snare inside the case and them proceeded to stand on the case, i doubted you could do that with the soft cases so i was sold. Now i dont think i will ever stand on the case, maybe..... but for protection they seem to be the best
The drums are in the back of my van for gigs and the van is simply a gig van, they are stackable no matter the drum size so i think i will buy all the rest of the cases for the kit
Really very impressed and pleased |
