Ha ha just under an inch thick, and yes, its damn loud.
In terms of volume its punching in the same class as my DW aluminium which is 14x6.5, a pretty tall order for a birch snare!

I REALLY want a thicker shelled drum. Those hoops are the business, too! How do they handle rimshots?

Thicker shells tend to project a lot more, there was a useful site about shell types and the different characteristics will see if I can find it.
