Don't think so, should still sound reasonable, especially if you want a deadish sound, but I'd always go for a single-ply reso if possible. Used Clear G2/G1 combo on my sonor phonic 14x14 FT for ages, sounded great, lovely long clear tone. J. |

| I currently have G2 over G1 but seem to remember reading on here that a twin ply reso will give a much deeper tone. |

| Deeper but deader. If you want a head which gives a deep warm sound but still with some life, try a Vintage Ambassador, it is two ply (which I hate) BUT the bottom one is a snare-reso gauge. Heard them at DTW recently and was mighty impressed. I still prefer vellum myself, but impressed. |

| Vinnie uses (or did on his Gretsch) use coated G2's top and bottom on all toms. I alos think Craig Blundell uses/used a similar set-up with his Aquarians on his clinic kit. |

Just replaced my two tom batters with these. Amazed by the ease of tuning, the tone and the tuning range (they replaced clear G2s but still over G1s)

Yep Jeff uses coated vintage A's top and bottom and they sound great. It's all so a trick Flurbs recommends.
I had clear g2 top and bottom on my 14" Saturn ft sounded lovely not dead at all. |
