I don't understand why there are always a bunch of people haring past me in an average speed camera zone. What do they know that I don't?
My satnav changes the speed display to an average reading now, which is ace - so I know I'm averaging, say, 52. And I'm getting overtaken by trucks and all sorts. At what speed do they get prosecuted? |

I heard a rumour that in average speed camera zones, if you go past one camera in one lane, then change lanes when you go past the next one, it can't register your average speed.
Just a rumour like, please don't quote me in court. |

The Cathorpe Interchange (junction 19 M1 / Junction 1 M6) has only recently removed cameras after over 2 years. I drive through there twice a day. Every single day I stuck to the speed limit, simply because I could have lost my licence within a few days. Anyone else wanting to speed past are more than welcome. If you're behind me, you're driving at 50 mph. |

| When I go down the A2 to Squeak's I keep pretty close to the 50 limit through the suburbs, then 70 after the limit, because I do not want to give the government any more money than I have to, but I am usually just about the slowest vehicle on the road. I sometimes see the cameras flashing. I have heard loads of people complaining that Speed Cameras are unfair, but as long as the Speed Limit is clearly shown then it's the driver's choice to obey it, or pay any fine without complaint. If you don't want the fine, don't do the crime. |

That used to be the case, but IIRC they now use the same number plate recognition technology that MOD establishments use.

Nope. That rumour exists because the official test by the home office is, or was, based on a one-lane thing. They've changed the test now anyway, but the average speed cameras are all connected - all they do is record your numberplate and the time you go in and out, and work out your average speed. |

| I was quite irked the other night when I travelling on a near empty 4-lane section of the M25 with no visible reason for an average 50 limit except the cones on the bloody' hard shoulder. |

The A1 is now clear of those cameras but I used to love it when drivers would belt past me, slow down for the cameras and then accelerate again. They must either be dyslexic or dumb |

never heard of it, but I'm not taking the chance.
