| Hi all, I'm a newbie so I hope this is the right section for this post, just a thought on the general census of putting cymbals in your case, do you put the smallest first & work up or vice vesa |

| I start with the largest one, and put them away is descending size order; with the exception of the china cymbal, which goes in last. |

Ah, but which way up?
I have a soft bag with dividers so it's all a bit different. |

| Largest in first facing down, unless there is a piece of felt in the middle around the screw post to make sure the cymbals don't move. |

I always put them in smallest , splash , first with a duster between every cymbal. I find they take up less space as they all just about sit flat on the case bottom. If you start with a big ride then stack on top they just pile up and leave a space underneath. |

| I pack cymbals on a case-by-case basis. Generally in the order in which they tesselate most nicely, so that no weight is being borne by the bridge region of any cymbal. |

I have some custom made cymbal covers that fit over each one, preventing them from rubbing on each other....nifty idea I came up with many moons ago....
Start small, bell upwards (how can you do it any other way?!?), end with the china which fits snug as, creating just the right amount of tension for the retaining wing nut.
It's a 'Freestyle' case I've got. Bought mid '90's. Excellent bit of kit. Not seen a case nearly as good since. |

| Mine go in a Hardcase with the biggest at the bottom, bell down and then go in size order except my china, if I'm using it, which goes in last as it all fits together better that way. I always mount/ remove them from the kit in this order one by one and it (probably unnecessarily) pi555es me off if I get the hi hats the wrong way round and I get to the top one in the case first as I don't like having two out of the case but not on stands at a time as I just know one day one will get stood on. |

They go into the hard case with the bell fitting into the recess in the case (upside down, although it's debatable for the china). |

Nnnnnnnnooooooooooooooo I too am one of the OCD brigade that only have one cymbal out at a time in a particular order! Not quite at the stage where I have a pair of white gloves to handle them though |

When it comes to hard cymbal cases each make has a different moulding that determines whether it's bell down or up. Using felt dividers will ensure the cymbals don't rub/scratch against each other (I have a big problem because of my two riveted rides).
Using a soft case (I have a deluxe pro rachet with two compartments and dividers) I put my hats in either side of the small compartment with the smaller cymbals in between, in the larger compartment, similarly, I put my largest cymbals on either side with the small cymbals (including the riveted 19" & 20" ride) in between.
Hope that helps in some way. |

I thought it was just me that has to both set up and pack away my precious Zildjians in a specific order, and I hadn't realised I too only have one cymbal out at any one time, until they're all on stands. If(as I have been doing recently) I only use some of my cymbals, I even have to re-pack the ones not in use safely away in the case. As far as putting them away, I use a Zildjian Cymbal safe that I've had forever -at least 25 years -and I always put my cymbals away, largest first, bell down, with either a thick plastic (cymbal) bag or thin duster between each one, then they're all locked down tightish with cymbal felts and the locking nuts. So far so good.

i'm probably guilty of being a little rough with my cymbals.they go into a padded bag,no dividers, largest first then work my way backwards.the smallest i use is an 18" crash, the hats have their own compartment on the front of the case.mine have never come to any harm;i don't clean them, they are covered in fingerprints and sweat, they sound absolutely glorious.zildjian 21" dry ride (70s)for crashing;20" sabian aa heavy ride (90s);5 star super zyn,20"(60s/70s);18" zildjian avedis crash (60s/70s);zildjian 14" mastersound hats (sound edge bottom,90s).i play at least 150 gigs per year and have never had a problem.happy days!! |

| Smallest first in circular hard case with central post: splash, 13 or 14 hats, 16, 18, with pads between. The Sabian 22 HH and Bosphorus 20 go in separate fur lined Protection Racket cases. Been using a vintage Ajax 20 riveted instead of the Bosphorus recently. It was a gift from one of the lovely inmates here, and I think it sounds better than the Bosphorus. OK, so my ears are fecked... |

Which way up? It depends on the case/bag. |
