I have a awesome watch that i bought with my grandmas inheritance money but its so good that im scared to even wear it, i wanted something i could keep, pass to my son and that would be timeless so a Tag Carrera was had but i have worn it 3 times in 4 years

Looking for something quite lovely like a Seiko or Citizen brand new or second hand, i really like large face with loads of dials

Any suggestions ?

I like Storm and Fossil watches but they're possibly not the kind of "name" watches you're after.

I agree with JGodsall though, a timeless watch is about as much use as a sun dial on your wrist.

it doesnt matter about the name, the only reason i bought the expensive watch was so i didnt waste the money on other things and see no benefit, i couldnt afford a big name watch on my budget

I just woud like a nice watch, large face, i found a fossil watch for £100 which is really nice but its on the net so cant really try it for weight and quality etc

Find a shop selling the one you have seen on the Net, try it on for fit and function. If you like it, try to haggle the price to match the net price or ask for a discount, show them the money, they want the money in their till, not in your pocket.

Beat me to it!
I have a Christopher Ward, affordable with Swiss movements, not mass produced & a British brand...go for it!

I bought a Tag Heuer for a landmark birthday & love it. Wear it & enjoy it is my advice, don't hide it away.

If you have something you like, use it. What is the point in hiding it in a cupboard?

Go to your nearest market, buy a watch for a fiver then spend your change on drummy bits

I got a secondhand (without a second hand) Sekonder with a real movement for a fiver, it keeps good time (more than I do) and it is readable and doesn't matter if it gets bashed around.

Girlfriend treated me to one of these for the last bday

Lovely watch, works for nearly any occasion and my daily wear. Can find it for about 200 if you have a good look round too.

I've got a bit of a weakness for watches. Especially big chunky ones!

Check out Alessandro Baldieri watches (www.abwatches.net) for something a little different. I bought a Palombari on a whim last year, and whilst its out of the budget you've set, they do have some watches in the £250 bracket if I recall. One of the nice things is that they are very limited runs of 100 or so watches, so pretty unique. The Palombari has a 53mm face, but some of the smaller Seamonsters are about 43-46mm. There can be some deals to be had on them as well.

Another option are Torgeon watches, which are imported by the same people above and appear to be quite chunky. (www.torgeon.co.uk) I've not had experience of these yet, but they are certainly in the larger style, and the T1 range is about £250.

Those Christopher Ward watches look nice too, and seem to be a competitive price.

Zodiac do some nice watches, and are part of the fossil brand. Dont get confused with Zenith which make some very expensive timepieces (check out the El Primero range for Zenith)

I have a really nice Breitling that I used to wear every day for about 15 years or so. However, when it started to look tatty and needed a service, I had Breitling do a full restoration on it to bring it back to new....which cost 4 figures so if you do wear a nice watch like a Tag Carrera, then you can get it refurbished, but at a cost!

If you really want to look at some absolutely fantastic (but high end) watches that you can personalise, take a look at BRM. (Bernard Richard Manufacture)

Otherwise, its brands like Police, Tissot, Citizen, Seiko that tend to be in that price range. The fashion hose watches (Police, Diesel, Fossil etc) tend to do the bigger faces, with brands like Tissot, Citizen and Seiko are usually more traditional unless you go for pilot or divers watches (of which Suunto are extremely good)

I like watches a great deal, I have an IWC Shaffhausen flieger chrono that i have worn every day for about ten years and it has come to no harm excpept for a small nick in the steel where I caught it folding a cymbal stand.

Wear the Tag Carrera for god sake. I had a (pre Tag) Heuer Carrera once upon a time but I had to sell it when I was made redundant. I regret it to this day.

If you re worried about damaging it (my Tag Carrera has plexi glass rather than crystal face) then get one of those leather straps that cover the face .

Mid life crisis kicked in, drum kit bought. It's not quite like cycling though, you forget. A lot!

The glass is almost impossible to damage as its sapphire crystal but im more worried about it but imagine the thing that my gran bought me and i lost it off my arm, it would devastate me as i was very close to her

The point with keeping it is that i hope to pass it down to my son one day, un damaged

Anyway i bought one of these
