I was watching a documentary on Fleetwood Mac the other week and I started digging out my copies of Rumours and Tusk. I realised I forgot just how good Mick Fleetwood is as a drummer and how much of an influence he was on me when I first started playing.

Any other big fans of his playing?

Yeah, I noticed that. Looks like he's trying to catch flies.

Rumours is a fine, fine record. Proper summer listening.

Although I'm not a fan of the band, I think Mick Fleetwood is a brilliant example of the 'less is more' approach.

Indeed.

A big influence on me as a "less is more" player.

He's 11 feet tall, has gurn to burn, and has shagged Stevie Nicks. What's not to like?

Understated and a great feel. I like his playing very much, I thought it was Lyndsy Buckingham who shagged Stevie Nicks, always thought that was odd a bloke with a girls name with a girl with a blokes name, almost role reversal.

Lyndsay Buckingham was originally shagging Stevie Nicks but broke up around Rumours. Mick Fleetwood started shagging Stevie Nicks during Tusk then broke it off in favour of her best friend, hence the track 'Sara'. Its like Eastenders with that lot.

Anyway back to drumming, definately agree with the 'less is more' approach. I think there are a lot of young drummers who could do with learning that approach. Just an observation of the Plymouth music scene anyway.

Is the documentary the one that was aired a couple of weeks ago? With Lyndsay Buckingham talking about Tusk and how his vision of the song changed due to what Mick couldn't play?

BTW, I'll be back in Plymouth come mid June..... Lock up your..........well...........everything!!!

Yeah it was on BBC4 so I think that's the one. It was very interesting. I think it was 'Go Your Own Way' and he was leaning towards the groove from 'Street Fighting Man' but yeah the same documentary.

Well when you're back, drop me an email if you ever want to go for a pint. Saying that my band are gigging in June around the city centre anyway.

Saw Mick Fleeetwood a couple of years ago over here. Loved his playing and was amazed by his size. At the end of the show the four musicians lined up on stage and Mick's arm was long enough to go across the shoulders of two of his mates!
