Usual eclectic mix, but Esperanza Spalding was superb. Great band, great playing. One of the rare occasions that am I inclined to buy the cd. Any idea who the drummer was?

Great band, but I can't be doing wi'yer man Rowland at all.

I really enjoyed the show (this week's) but "zany" Paloma Faith leaves me cold.

A friend was raving about Dexy's, but I'm with Mully: good music spoilt by the singer.

What was the band where one guy was playing bass AND drums?

Sitting on top of the mountain isn't the most interesting bit of the climb. Sitting at the bottom aint much fun either.

No one liked Hot Chip? I though they were ace, and rather attractive drummer was a bonus!

Dave Ruffy on drums for Dexys. Lives round the corner and used to give me lessons and play at the local jam night. Top bloke. Kevin however, was embarrassing....

Without Kevin Roland there wouldn't be Dexy's, he may not appeal to everyone as his voice is certainly unusual but he is a great talent.

^ I was going to ask that, seems very likely. Very handy player. When I recorded an album (vinyl) with my Goth band in the 80s he was our producer's go-to guy for replacing below-par drummers, and after 5 days in rehearsal with the producer I was told that I WOULD be allowed to record the album, if he had not been convinced I could do it, I would have met Ruffy and seen him at work, but missed out on doing the album...ships that pass, and all that!

I agree Capn great drummer, when I was 18 High land hard rain was never off my turntable, the production suffered the 80s treatment making the drums sound like an elecronic kit but the playing was superb.
Makes me wonder what happened to some of those very talented musicians from that period, The commotions, Prefab sprout, Everything but the girl, fine musicians rarely mentioned now while Wham and Duran Duran are still all over the radio, strange.
