I'm looking for some advice here, I've been offered the chance to buy a Stage Custom, however it's 'pre-birch' so likely to be before 2003, are these kits any good as I've tried finding reviews, but they're all about the Birch version (which sounds brilliant I might add).

The price would be around £500, coming with quite a lot of hardware.

Any help would be appreciated, cheers.

Not bad kits but not worth £500, you could get an awesome 2nd hand kit for that money.

They are great kits, but if no more than a 5 shells, overpriced at £500 even with some extra hardware.

What I thought really, having a tough time finding a kit as I'm starting from scratch here after giving up four years ago (stupid I know!).

Ebay is ok, but seems to be mainly shops selling new kits or some dodgy Performance Percussion kits, Graham Russell has really nice kits but as I'm on a budget I think I can probably find the kits with hardware somewhere else.

If your budget is around the £500-£550 mark;

I know they aren't top line gear, but you won't go wrong with them.

Appreciate the links Gaz, any idea what model that Mapex kit is? I'm guessing a Meridian of some sort?

Mapex Pro-M; essentially the same maple core shell as the Mapex Orions. On par with Sonor 3007's.

Interesting, £350 seems a very good deal, although I'm not sure what 'pitting' is, in terms of the condition of the kit.

Anyone had any experiences with the Pro-M's? Decent kits?

Went ahead and bought it, life's about gambles... Hopefully this one pays off!
