Hey everyone!

I've just bought a lovely Mapex Black Panther Retrosonic kit. I'm about to take it on tour and I need to get it insured. Can anyone recommend a good insurer? Is it worth getting special musical instrument insurance rather than just putting on my home insurance?

Cheers

Definitely worth getting specific insurance - try Allianz Cornhill or MusicGuard. With the latter you get public liability included, too...

Mine is covered on my house insurance, but i don't take it away. I suppose if you're giging you might need something separate.

Tama (well, a badge on the bass), Zildjian, Grandad-made tambourine, Premier HD heads (8 years old now, and still going strong). Could do with lessons! http://s872.photobucket.com/albums/ab285/AnthonyOConnell/My%20Drum%20Kit/

^ Thats who I use, only a few quid a month and insured when left in an unattended car too. Wouldn't leave home without it!!

Most standard Home Insurance policies won't cover it if you regularly take it out the house. Even as a specialist item they don't like doing it.

There's no beating specific instrument insurance. The people on the other end of the phone sometimes even have a clue what you're talking about. I remember discussing my Istanbuls for about 45 minutes with the person on the other end of the phone when I insured my stuff. I forgot it was a premium rate number :(

I use Musicguard to cover my kit and the PA, naming other band members to ensure cover for all. You can list serial numbers for all the gear if you have any.
