Sounds like a no brainer to me. One is no 1 in the World and Olympic rankings and current European champion. The other is 114 in the World.
Politics turning a simple decision into a farce.

Yes ... they are clearly mad !

I know someone who is very heavily involved with the British judo community, and it's endlessly fascinating for me to learn the extent to which personal politics, in-fighting (no pun intended !), jealousies, and simple prejudices play in the administration of national sporting bodies ... you'd be surprised, (or perhaps you wouldn't ! )

Didn't he do his own training or something rather than go with the British team? Something on those lines anyway.
The British Taekwondo committee are obviously fuming about this and have dug their heels in big time, bunch of stubborn cretins if you ask me.

I heard their spokesperson on the radio last week, he didn't come up with one good reason as to why they've dropped the world number one rather he tried to bluff the interviewer with a load of old bawllocks!

Nail on the head. You only have to look at bigger sports like football and boxing and all the internal politics that are involved. This sounds like more of the same.

Apart from my son's Taekwondo classes I don't know much about the sport, but having read the article it seems a stupid decision. If Lutalo Muhammad competes, then for his sake I hope he does well, but part of me is hoping GB Taekwondo will end up with egg on their face!

I am also a Judoki and after 20 years of service i know all too well unless you kiss some serious ass you can get no where

I wont kiss ass and ended up being rejected for tournaments more times than i can even remember, let team gb make there decisions but they will pay the price in the end and end up making our Taekwondo team look ridiculous

Many years ago I was mad keen on Taekwon do. One session would kill me now.

Back then - (the eighties) it was beset by Political problems. It's World leadership split into two: the ITF and the WTF.

in 1988 the Olympics were held in Seoul and so the eight or ten years leading up to it saw all kinds of infighting (groan).

Two distinct types of TKD now exist and the ITF type was rejected by the Olympic great and good in favour of the WTF type.

The style chosen by the Olympic organisation is characterised by the sparring being conducted with the body armour worn and nothing on hands and feet.

The ITF form of sparring had no armour but feet and hand protectors and was full contact for Dan grades.

Like the divided country of it's origin, TKD has always been split. It's inextricably linked to that country and it's history.

Seems that nothing has changed and we have just blown a chance at a gold. Unbelievable really.
