Decent gig last night, small venue packed to the rafters with punters and everyone in the mood to party. First song - guitarist breaks a string. Not a problem as he has a spare guitar. Fourth song - bass player breaks a string so his spare is brought out. Second set - dep lead guitarist breaks a string! In the break the Gibson had been restrung so he could borrow the spare, except he is left-handed! Thank goodness he plays an upside down righty or it would have made the rest of the set rather interesting.

I wouldn't say my performance was flawless, but I did treat my snare with a little more care, just in case! I had visions of stripping the head from my floor tom mid-set, not good for the concentration.

I have a spare snare, bass pedal, hihat clutch, heads for all drums, stands, bass drum mic, geberal mic, 2 overhead mics.....

Just in case of catastrophic failure, I'll try to establish which Dolbearian I'm nearest to when gigging

I like to be prepared.

fair play, what were the odds on that?!

I've never broke a head, pedal, stick or cymbal (touch wood) in my life. Years ago I used to carry an extra pedal and snare around and a variety of drum lids, string, nuts and bolts, tension rods, spanners etc, but after two years of zero use they just felt like an unnessecary bulk and weight, so they stay at home gathering dust. I'm more likely to forget something than break it, in which case I improvise

marched with a bass drummer that forgot his bats once, the only place open was a nearby cookery shop, so the march was successfully completed with wooden spoons.

I used to do that until it seemed that all i was doing was bringing things that the other "kit share" drummers hadn't bothered with and expected to use because... well i had two.
