Been trying to learn this recently and I saw in a recent thread you had learned it some time back. How do you play the bass drum part ? It's really hard to hear on the record because it is so low in the mix. At the moment I'm keeping it really loose with a single bass drum on one, with the snare on two and four.

I tend to keep it more or less four on the floor and play constant 16ths on the hands between the hats and snare (left hand ghosting on the snare with accents as per the track - right hand coming down to play the backbeat).
This is a video of the guy who taught me playing it with his band - I just play it the same way he does. I have his transcription of it if you want it (though he didn't write it as 4 on the floor)

Edited to add - his transcription is as per the record...his live version mutates further away from it as the years go by!

Thanks, good cover. Four on the floor makes sense, I tried it with the bass on one and three but it didn't feel right. I also tried it with a lot more bass drum accents , but that also didn't feel right. I think my bass drum is just too boomy for this with its current open tuning.
I'd like to see the tab if you have it handy. If not, don't worry. |

Sounds mainly like bass drum on 1, 2 and 4 to me.

Yep, the original. There are some variations, but it's mostly that all the way through (it's easiest to tell with the verses; the choruses are a bit murkier, but I'm fairly sure it's the same).

OK, thanks for that. In the meantime I've been doing a lot of watching and listening and I think I've got a decent version going.
