Should have clarified...

They are Premiers...the model is Superstar...

Largest kit they offered for quite a while!

Did wonder.
The dagger mounts should have made me realise.

I'm currently working on an Aqua shimmer kit from the early late '60s-early'70s which has dagger mounts. I'm not sure they were used as far as '74, but your guess is probably not far off. That said I've never heard of a Premier 'Superstar' kit. The UK kits at that time had model numbers not names, but I guess they could have been given model names for the USA market?

I'm sure someone here could ID & date them if you could post some pics?
(you need to post pics on a hosting site like Photobucket/Flickr etc. and then post the links here)

Sounds like a Model 707 as seen on the 1972 Premier cat cover in Metalised Golden Sun. Bjorn, I think 1973 saw the daggers change to the "oval" tom holder?? Pos 74'?
The US had strange names and did not like too many flush braced tension rod holders, many special models sent with sep lug casings as cats tell us?

Hi,

Thanks for the replies...

The reason I ask all this...when I got the kit,the guy had a receipt saying 1975 on it listing the kit in detail...

It was listed as Pd 505 Superstar....in the catalogs I have, they show it as Superstar....

Anyway, without cymbals,it was $1,316 for the 6 drums with 2 Speed Kings,2 Lokfast cymbal stands,2 cymbal arms, Lokfast hi hat stand and snare stand...

I think the kit sat on the floor of a shop for a long time, and finally sold in 75. It was too expensive for most people... $1.316 is prolly about $3,948 in today's money!

Since they didn't,t come out with a 13 tom till 72 ,and changed from dagger mounts in 74,my kit has to be right in there...1973 I am guessing now..

All Premier kits in the US had names instead of numbers. I have a photocopy of the 1976 catalogue and the Superstar set had 2x22" bass drums, 13x9, 14x10 toms, 14x14 and 16x16 floor toms with a 2000 snare. Also listed are Baron, Resonator, Gig Maker, Driver, Powerhouse, Kicker and the Olympic kit was called Rebel.

Resonators and Ufips....just beautiful. www.vintageolympic.co.uk

Rotocasting is definitely the pinnacle of cymbal manufacture!

Good Evening,
Do tell Mr Ear, do you think there is an increasing awareness of the (superior) quality of the older Premier drums your side of the pond?
Have you noticed any surge of competitiveness when it comes to acquiring them stateside?
Or are they merely viewed as another (suspicious?) foreign interloper?
Just asking like...

Evening,
No,not seeing much interest..

I saw Magic Box,a Genesis tribute band a few months back, and he was playing a 70's kit that sounded real good miked up..

Got me interested in a kit,and then found the Superstars on Craigslist for a good price.

I have been shopping them a round for $1000 with brand new heads, cleaned top to bottom, and can't seem to sell them!

Grabbed a Burgundy kit too since then (extra holes ) and the royal purple strays last week.

I have always loved the Lokfast stands though and 2000 snares

You're starting to see new kits available in the states now, especially on eBay.

Vintage Premier kits don't seem to be special yet. There are a couple 80s Resonators on eBay that have been there forever with decent prices.

Looking for a 16" Premier Resonator Floor Tom in Piano Black w/long lugs and painted reso linings (circa 88-91)

My '88 Black Resonator:
