Yes, me too.
It is quite funny, that customizing Premiers are seen as A Good Thing here, if done with taste and reason - in contrast to the dominant view at american sites like Vintage Drum Forum or Rogers Owners Forum, where "Originality" is everything, a recoated drum is "Ruined" and dismantling drums for spares are "Slaughter".
I have wondered why it is so in the US, and maybe it has something to do with a sense of history that has a wider perspective.
Maybe, to us europeans a forty old massproduced drum really isnīt necessarily seen as an important part of our Heritage. I mean, we europeans have violins that are ten times as old....the church near my house is 900 years old....I found a stone axe when I pulled the floor in my kitchen up, people have obviously built their houses on this spot for more than thousand years...
Of course I will not advise anyone to recoat a nice original and complete Premier kit, when loose drums with knackered coating can easily be assembled for the purpose.
But I really like this site SO much better....and drums like this better than a pic of yet a pristine and costly BDP or WMP Ludwig in catalogue condition.....

I'm with you Jon, I like to keep things original if possible, but sometimes it doesn't make economical sense, or you you just have the parts from various drums, which even when all assembled into one drum wouldn't be strictly original anyway... so using vintage parts on this snare, yours, Bazarre's or any others is great.
I'm sure there are some who still see it as sacrilege but I think most people don't mind as much as vintage Premier gear just doesn't have the value of some vintage USA brands yet.
Spart, great work, that looks very nice indeed! |
