The M series was the preceeder to the present Meridian series. Normally they were called the M birch series they were manufactured from birch wood. They were a midrange kit and higher up from the VX series. Previous to the that there was a Mapex Mars kit which again was a level above the VX series kit.

There was also the Mars Pro range which was really rather good.

As it's used, is it an M-birch, M-maple or a Pro-M?

Pro-M were effectively mid level kits but with the same basic maple shell as the Orion. (Without the flash veneers and better quality onboard hardware.) M-birch & M-maple use a shell, shall I say, very close to Sonor's Force series. (The shells are all made at the same Tianjinn plant, but on 'seperate' production lines)

I had an M-Birch. I used it for hundreds of gigs and a few recording sessions. It never let me down and sounded great. I replaced it with a Meridian Birch, which is the successor to the M-Birch.

The only issue for me with the M/Meridian Birch is the lug count on the floor toms.

It's just listed as M series I'm afraid.
