Hey everyone.

Just been offered a gig in Italy so it will be my first time putting stuff on a flight.

Pretty comfortable with the Tama hardcase my snare came in and sticks and pedal can go in a semi-rigid luggage bag.

Cymbals are my main concern. Currently use a 24" Pro Racket Deluxe and love it to bits but air travel could be it's first shortcoming.

Any recommendations on hard cases for cymbals?
And does anyone know if there are any requirements for flight cases or would (for example) a Hardcase do the job?

Completely new to this so thanks for any help,

Cheers,

Stuart.

Cheers, I had a feeling they would be the obvious choice - glad they've been affirmed.

I bought my son an SKB cymbal case in the States, he's used and abused it - still going strong several years later, competitive with Hardcase (see Wembley Drum Centre for pics).

Still got a straight square flightcase dropped out of a luggage hold and bent one half. Still pretty strong after staightening and the Zildjian Rock 21" and hats still intact. Happened @ 1985.
If you're going from Liverpool PM me and you could borrow it. Pretty hefty though at 5" x 24 x 24 ish.
There is no mid spindle though a cheap cymbal bag would fit as padding.

Sitting on top of the mountain isn't the most interesting bit of the climb. Sitting at the bottom aint much fun either.

You could look into having your cymbal case/bag as hand luggage?

Too heavy for hand luggage unless you fly business or first!

You will need to check them in unless someone non-officious is at the check-in desk?

Shut it and whack the poxy things!

Stuart, if you are flying from Manchester I have a proper cymbal flight case. I'm on holiday so can't measure it but is something like 24" square with a big handle. You are welcome to use it if needed

Are you gigging at Pistoia?

That might be amazing mate - got no idea where we're flying from yet since we only got the gig last night.
But I do know the festival is paying for the flights so we're not worried about hefty check in costs.

If I am flying from Manchester then I might take you up on that - if not Hardcase seems to be the right choice.

It's the Jerzu Wine Festival on Sardinia which I was at first dubious about but it seems they do have quite a lot of good music on.

I agree with Hardcase as the extra weight of a flightcase may cost a small fortune in excess baggage fees. Having said that, I now use a Pro-Racket case with liners inside a proper flight case for road use.

A padded soft case will fit in the overhead locker.Try not to take your entire collection.
