Hi

My situation - have a lovely Mapex M series drum set in the garage, due to the usual noise issues this is completely muted down with Trapps electronic mutes linked to a Roland TD3 also with Roland e cymbals.

It works well but the mutes are wearing out and not always triggering and I'd really like to get something that feels a bit more like a normal head.

One option is to sell the shells and get a Jobkey or similar but I really like the Mapex. So.... would it work if I fitted mesh heads (to cut the noise) with DDRUM triggers feeding the TD3?

If it did work would the mesh heads cut the sound to anywhere need the level the mutes do?

any thoughts / experience gratefully received - many thanks

Yes, it will work. Yes, it will be quieter than mutes (though if you leave the reso head intact you will get a bit of tone out of it, though no attack). Make sure you get quality mesh heads (Jobeky, Humm Drumm, etc) rather than the coarse black Arbiter heads which will knacker yor bearing edges.

You could go a step further and get someone to do a complete conversion to e-drums for you (internal triggers, etc).

Hi moosetication - many thanks good to know - esp re the advice on heads. I think I might be scared by the costs to convert it properly but I'll certainly check that out - cheers
