Mrs Brig's laptop packed up a while ago (Dell Studio 1535). Cant afford to buy a new one so have decided to try to repair it.
After running various diagnostics, it is the ATI Graphics chip that's fecked (I suspect overheating caused by blocked up cooling fins on heatsink). On these motherboards, the chip is hardwired to the board (not a card like in most PCs) which means a new motherboard.
On order along with a better processor (T8300 vs T5750), extra 2GB RAM and some thermal pad stuff.
Completely dismantled laptop yesterday and when stuff arrives will begin assembly. Crapping myself as I've done loads of PC builds/rebuilds/upgrades, but never a laptop. Everything is TINY!
Fingers crossed. |

A ha'penny? I'd have thought you'd want someone to do the job for free. |

Thanks for the vote of confidence Mully. I'm really challenging myself as I'm going to attempt it blindfolded with both hands stapled to my thighs.

Too late - the boy stick already cryptically answered ^ and won. However, he was fined thruppence for being cryptic and not just answering the feckin' question, so he now owes me tuppence-ha'penny.

But sadly not smart enough for Mully - are you sure you can't sort out this banking mess with your financial wizardry? Put it on the slate and I'll reckon up when my postal order arrives. |

In order to make an apple pie from scratch, you must first create the universe
"There is a theory which states that if ever anybody discovers exactly what the Universe is for and why it is here, it will instantly disappear and be replaced by something even more bizarre and inexplicable. There is another theory which states that this has already happened."

Well, I did it. And it works. Flawlessly.
