Hi

Me and my band have started experimenting with backing tracks as there is a lot of extra production in our music and we want to re create this live.

We basically have bass and synths and some percussion coming from backing track. The way I have triggered this so far has been from logic pro on my macbook and then sending the signal for synths through output 1/2, click through 3/4 and bass through 5/6 so they can all be separated and sent to different channels/amplifiers via my audio interface (8 outputs). This works fine but I was wondering if anyone has had experience with a solid state machine for this very purpose which eradicates the need for relying on a laptop?

My setup is this:

Drums
Vocals
SPD-S

(from laptop)
Synth backing track (PA system)
Bass (bass amp)
Click (obviously just for me)

Any insight would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Jay

You could use one of the Roland, Boss, Fostex etc HDD recorders for the job - we used to do that some 10 years ago - but it is, for my mind, very inflexible and they're expensive if you've already got something like a Mac.

FWIW, I'd stick with the MacBook.
