Do you have any contacts/family in the states ? If you do get stuff shipped to them and have it sent to you as a gift.

How many times has this been said....
It make no odds if you mark it as a gift. Its the value. And if you undervalue it, you will not get the full amount back in the event of it going missing/damaged. |

| Yard, the stuff I collect/play is all over there, man. It seems in the 80's we ended up with all the pearl gear, and the americans got all the tama stuff. |

Not correct to my experiences - if I receive a packet marked as a gift, I donīt pay tax or VAT here in Denmark. There wonīt even be a value written on the label.

Packet or parcel?
If no value then surely nothing is paid out if it went missing? |

Packet or parcel? I donīt really know the difference, they just post it to me and I pay ...it is signed for, anyway.
I never had any trouble, but the way the danish postal system works when working inside Denmark, there is a limit to the insurance of @ Ģ100 if you donīt pay extra. That means you will get Ģ100 if the packet is lost, regardless of the fact that no value is put on the item beforehand.
I assume it works the same way when posting between countries - when I post things to you guys, I never ever put a value on them. But if the packets are sent signed for, there is a certain insurance coupled to it.
Must look into it more....
The real problem is that is illegal for US citizens to send things as gifts if they arenīt. Shops of course wonīt and canīt do it, only private sellers.

To give you an idea, I bought a new Canopus Club for $1500 when there were about 1.75$ to the Ģ. So I paid about Ģ860 for the kit + about Ģ100 for the shipping. I then got a bill from fedex for about Ģ275 for VAT on drums AND Shipping + import duty. The kit was still a bargain and, in any case, is not available in UK, but you do have to factor this in |
Canopus Club, Paiste 602 and, occasionally, a cocktail kit. |

I'm happy to buy from uk dealers but so many collectable items simply aren't available in the uk. I've been looking for a particular snare for a while on ebay.co.uk with no luck, but a search on .com gave me a choice of 3.

I have only been buying spares for american kits in the US - spares, that I couldnīt possibly find here. Like spares for the Memriloc Rogers I was assembling.
And I must say, the cost of importing these spares have put me off further ownership of american drums.
IF I someday decide I need an american kit, I would buy a complete kit, ready to use or recoat. And, if I coudnīt find it here, I would consider buying in the US using Shopusa. But only if I couldnīt find it here.
But I really think I will stick with european kits....
