Hi I've been listening to a recording I made in an outdoor setting today with a jazz quartet. I confirms what I thought at the time: my 16x 14 Mapex bd mounted on a bass drum lift and using a Mapex P700 pedal is way too loud. Every 8th note is coming through. I'm using a felt beater and don't think I'm kicking that hard. Please help I don't know how to quieten it

Got your email Andy, email sent.

I hope either of my two products might help. These will be launched at NDF, near Birmingham, last week end of September.

Marcus I've responded and look forward to getting the remedy. I may also do a write up on this site if that's ok.

That would be great, but possibly to include both accessories once launched.

Andy, it's now in the post so you should have it in time for Friday's gig. The 1 and 2 on it tell you how many layers there are. Squeak might stitch some production ones, but your one, being a prototype was hand-stitched by me; Squeak's stitches are all hemi-semi-demi quavers, mine are a mix of minims, quavers, semi-breves and crotchets and a whole mess of different time sigs! Hope it works. Cheers!

My stitching and sewing is considerably less neat and organised than Squeak's...you'll see!

Getting sacred? Bless you!

It's alright, it works fine, just not as neat as production ones will be.

PayPal sorted, cheers, first sold before even being in production!

Hope it is useful! I am about to leave to spend a few days with Squeak, taking materials and sewing gear so we will be stitching away on the sofa like two old Grannies!

Will post photos later, one device, which Andy went for, is like an elastic "sock" Muffler which fits over the beater and is pulled tight with a cord and cord lock; it has two impact pads on it of 1 and 2 layers of synthetic lamb's wool for a softer sound. The other is like a multi-rod beater with fibre-glass rods. I have been using both on my own kits for years and suddenly thought it would make sense to produce some for other people! I had a jam last night with two friends (steel string guitar and mandolin, both acoustic and un-amplified) and was using one of the Beater Mufflers to keep things in control volume wise. The Beater Rods give a quieter sound too, but as the rods contact there is a bit of click to give nice definition to the sound.

OK, here's a photo of new accessories.

http://s581.photobucket.com/albums/ss260/Captain_Bubble/Busker%20Cajon%20Kit%20set%20ups%20with%20new%20additions/

Large Beater Rods to fit a bass drum pedal for less volume but reasonable definition.

Snare Mufflers for 20 and 42 strand snares, attach to snare butt plates with Blu-Tack (removable) or Double-Sided Foam Tape (Permanent fixing)

Beater Muff: fits and secures over BD Pedal Beater choice of two surfaces of 1 and 2 layers of synthetic lamb's wool.

Small Beater Rods for lighter sound.

Beater Muffler
