In the market for an 18" or 20" China. Not been checking in here for a couple of years so a bit out of the loop regarding whats new out there. Any decent new products, cheap (ish) but decent sound/build quality you can reccommend,or is it still best to hunt down a bargain on the Bay.Im after a bright sounding metal, not too trashy

Of my china's, the brightest is my Sabian AAX 18", the trashiest a Wuhan 20": and I really mean trashy. Unfortunately, the Sabian is 3-4 times the price of a Wuhan.

If you're looking for something bright, but with a trashy overtone, have you thought about Sabian O-Zones? I have one, and in a blind test it could pass as a mellow china, and the new B8 Pro models reviewed on the site shouldn't break the bank.

If you dont want it too trashy I also recomend the "efx" sort of cymbals. I owned the A custom version and it was nice!

Ive got a few Paiste 2002 18 inch very explosive, Wuhan 27 inch surprisingly warm but like n earthquake, and a Stagg DH 18 which is not the best factory finished cymbal but sounds great. More expensive are not always the best sounding, a china from china out of the Dream or Wuhan districts can be pretty amazing, really.

I also have a Stagg DH 18 - I actually swapped a 16" Paiste Twenty for it after I heard a friend's last year. A fraction of the cost, and (for me) just the right amount of trashiness without being overbearing. You might need to try a few, but well worth persevering.

HHX 18" is trashy-ish, quite dark and mellow. It's not in your face loud if you don't want it to be. Good for riding on as well. Come up on ebay from time to time around the £130 mark.

The meinl Classics china (18") is great and won't break the bank, I use if for lots of post rock stuff and it is quite versatile.
