Hello chaps and chapesseses. I'm going to buy a present for a student of mine to inspire him to practise more.

I'm thinking of getting him this 4" Meinl pad.

Like the guy said in the video, being smaller can help build more precision into your playing, which is obviously a good thing.

It's the least expensive around. There are also some by Ahead and Gibraltar which cost a little more and are around 5" to 5.5" diameter.

While I know he'll be happy for any, anyone got experience with the Meinl and do you think the 4" practise pad is sufficient/good enough?

You're going to buy your student a strap-on?

Hmmm.... it certainly is quiet around here. I'll try and offer up a more serious reply then. I use a Roland PD-8 as a practise pad mounted by my desk, I would have thought that 4" is getting a bit on the small side. Personally I would recommend something a little wider for someone who is still getting to grips. But that's just me.

Thanks chaps and sorry for the late reply. I gave him the 4" Meinl last week, he seems to like it. Time will tell if he makes good use of it. Probably not after the novelty wears off.

Well you might end up with some tuning legs instead of lugs then!
