Hi all. Asking on behalf of a work colleague who is after something for his 5 year old. Kid can play - I've seen the video! Anyway, he has a top mark of 200 nicker, second hand cool. Any recommendations?

Yamaha DTXPress for that money - there's a few flying about eBay for about 200. I have one for my 5 year old and it's perfect for him. Doubt you'll get anything much better than that for the price. You might get lucky and find a Roland TD3 perhaps?

I'd avoid anything like Roland HD-1 or HD-3, they are very flimsy and will fall to bits quite easily.

Thanks for the tip Shark and nice work from your lad too. There's some good dynamics going on there! Guess he had a good teacher! ;)

He doesn't listen to a word I say! He came out of the womb with a pair of bongos, and I gave him some sticks when he was big enough to hold them up. I've left him to it since then and he's going to be better than me by the time he's 7.

If anyone's interested my mate who has a guitar shop in Whitley Bay has acquired a first-issue DTX with rack, pedals and manual that he's willing to take offers of less than a ton for. I've had a play with the module (matron) and it's working fine. Collection only though.
