these are great! i learn songs by writting out the drum score, but although my ear for rythm is good i cannot always work out what is being hit. will now try fight for the right with the crashes where i was not doing them before. one suggestion-- what tempo are the original tracks. i can get it eventually but would be good to know what someone else thinks

Actually it's on a free piece of software called Lilypond. Produces nice output, but its main advantage (or disadvantage!) is that you give it a mark-up text file instead of entering things via a pointy-click interface. I'm a computer programmer, so this is a big plus for me and when you get used to it you can go much faster than with a graphical interface.

I uploaded all my Lilypond sources here: http://www.box.net/shared/4qcboqkbto in case you're not scared off already! It's all much easier than it looks on first glance.

Hope you liked them. I only uploaded the ones I'm really sure I got right. I use Transcribe to slow down fills when necessary, so I reckon I'm pretty accurate.

Today's transcription...

Mr. Brightside

There are parts of the tune where there are two drum tracks (eg. middle 8) so I made it as straight forward and playable as I could.

Thanks for all these - good work

Thanks Richard, hope there's a few tunes that you can use.

Hey granny, thanks for the feedback and the suggestion of adding a metronome mark. I'll put one on the scores from now on.

Downloaded my 8 steps to bad ass drumming the other day. Set my kit up last night as described. Never really realised before, but have been setting my kit to what I think looks right and perhaps not the most natural to play. Tried the "air drum" method and was surprised to find my set up changed from how I have been playing for years! Felt great and really made things easier! Cool! Thanks DN!

Nice one John! Well done for getting your teeth into learning notation, it really
is a useful skill to have. Good luck with it and if you have any questions don't hesitate

That's great Leggoman, I'm really glad that you've benefited from 8 Steps and
you've found a nice, ergonomic set-up that's easy for you to play. You should
find you're a wee bit niftier when you're tearing it up and you can play with
less fatigue. Thanks man!

also can anyone tell me what the clef at the front of drum music means, on these transcription its two bars, sometimes i have seen it as a box with the veritcal bars thicker-- i know it means drums, but where did it come from

An easy one for the weekend...

Seven Nation Army - The White Stripes

Hey Granny,

Not sure where the drum clef actually came from or when it
was introduced but it's a neutral clef that is used for untuned
percussion. We used to use a bass clef most of the time but
the neutral clef is the standard these days.

I'm digitizing about 100 hand written transcriptions that I've done
already so won't be taking any requests for a while. Nancy Boy is a
pretty interesting tune though so I'll try to take a look at it at a later
date.

Thanks!
