Great stuff Nigel, that's a tidy looking kit and a great price I reckon!
The 'bloody awful' oval tom holder is worth a few quid by the way, especially if it's in as good a condition as it looks and the bass mount has no splits in it. Seen them go for anything between £20-£50, so you should have something to put towards the badges and rail etc.
Well done!

Yes there aren't any splits in it. I'll sell it on when the time comes.

Rail mount just arrived. Baseball bat dampers en route. New reso head with proper 60s logo on order. Replica keystone badges fitted. Hole from Prem holder being plugged. Ludwig tom bracket and cymbal arm holder coming back with a friend from Florida in a week. Haven't played it yet but will on Friday (with temporary rack tom holder). Will need a rewrap eventually but at least the hardware will be correct again!

Good stuff, nice that it's a bit of a project but not tooooo much work hopefully. When it's all done and when you're playing it you'll have the satisfaction of knowing you've brought it back to its former glory

Well the former owner ( a retired pro) has given me some of the kit's history. It's a '61, originally blue oyster pearl. He bought it in '76 as a music shop repossession and had it recovered in '78 in black as oysters and pearls were unfashionable then. In his career as a pro he used it to back Freddie Starr, Jane Macdonald, Alvin Stardust, the Bachelors, Cannon and Ball and many others. He's going to send me some video clips of it in action. Should be interesting!

Hi Nigel, Been following your kit chase on here, good outcome mate. Hope you're progressing with treatment etc and feeling better. Was this guy the muppet who did all the silly things to the kit??
Cheers Steve

Hey Steve, yes he was, back in '78 people didn't view '61 kits with any nostalgia! It's nothing that a rewrap won't fix; I've already sorted all the other issues. And it was really cheap, so I'm not worried - I couldn't have afforded a Super Classic any other way.

You're an inspiration to me, Nigel. Keep fighting! Glad to hear you got a result with the Luddys.

Re the Peavey kit, they are fantastic drums. I played a set once at a gig about 12 years ago, and I loved them. I can't afford a set now, but I still wish I had some.

Take care, mate. Stay strong!

Hey Nigel, I'm the guy who bought the rack from you!

Sorry to hear about everything that's happening just now, but that Ludwig sure looks gorgeous!

And thanks again for the rack! I'm having loads of fun trying out different set-ups :D
