From The Riser - A Drummers Perspective Part 2 by David Phillips
Back in December 2010 David Phillips published his first book - "A Drummers Perspective: A Photographic Insight into the World of Drummers". The perfect coffee table book for drummers, the book is filled with great shots of the worlds greatest drummers in action.
For those who don't know him, David works in artist relations for many well known drum companies, and is also a keen photographer. Making full use of his rare access to areas the public only dream about, David's second book, A Drummers Perspective Part 2, is a 184 page hardback of colour photographs. It gives you the opportunity to witness behind the scenes views and scenes that only an Access All Areas pass can get you. Taken at major concert stadiums and venues all over the world, we get to see some of the greatest drummers in the world as we have probably never seen them before.
The book starts with a foreword by Rush drummer Neil Peart. To quote Neil - "...not many photographers have captured the performance art as well as Dave Phillips has in his first book, and even more in this one. One accomplishment is simply collecting photographs of so many of today''s prominent drummers, but a great gift is delivering such iconic images of each one".
There are photos of 130 drummers, including artists like Lars Ulrich, Terry Bozzio, Travis Barker, Thomas Lang, Stewart Copeland and Dave Weckl. Just by looking at the back stage passes on the inside and back covers, you get an idea of how many concerts and hours have gone into this project, which was part financed by Indiegogo pledges.
I love this book as much as Dave''s first. It's a great gift for Christmas time for yourself or the drummers in your life, or even for a simple music fan. It's a really nice coffee table book for your house or your studio. Well done Dave.
