NAMM 2017 - Sonor New Products

Sonor Introduces Two New One Of A Kind Snare Drums

Sonor, one of the world’s leading drums and percussion manufacturers, today introduces two new limited One-Of-A-Kind 2017 Snare Drums, each with a stunning high gloss veneer. These snare drums represent Sonor´s ultimate craftsmanship. The drums are handmade in Sonor´s German factory.

Sonor, proudly celebrating a tradition of over 140 years of excellence, is releasing its fourth issue of the Limited Edition One Of A Kind snare drums at Winter NAMM 2017. This year Sonor announces two new limited One-Of-A-Kind snare drums, the Bocote and Cocobolo, each with a stunning high gloss veneer. These snare drums represent Sonor´s ultimate craftsmanship. The drums are handmade in our German factory.

“For each edition a certain tree is selected with the goal to only use the most exiting parts of the grain and set them to perfect vertical grain patterns. Vertical outside veneer grains have been introduced by Sonor in 1973 and are the company´s trademark ever since”, says Karl H. Menzel, managing director of Sonor. “All veneers are sourced at specialized suppliers in Germany, which guarantee that these trees come from environmentally friendly sources and are exported/ imported legally”.

These limited drums are the top of the line of the Sonor snare program and honour the long tradition of exiting veneers and innovative instruments within the company''s history. Each series features an extremely limited run of specially designed snare drums with spectacular natural grown veneers and new shell designs. The instrument´s badges highlight laser cut mallet shaped logos, made out of the same veneer that is used on the snares itself. Each One Of A Kind snare drum is delivered in a hard case, made to Sonor''s specification.

Sonor Introduces SQ2 ´MOST Wanted´ Program

Sonor, one of the world’s leading drums and percussion manufacturers, today introduces the SQ2 Pre-configured Program. The program contains Sonor´s selection of well established sizes and combinations that are suitable for a wide variety of musical settings.

The SQ² Pre-configured Program offers the ´most wanted´ SQ² sizes and configurations, immediately available. The SQ² Pre-configured Program is not a new product line as each drum is exactly the same as a drum with the same configuration and finish, ordered through the online SQ2 configurator.

“In recent years we have seen a growing demand for pre-configured SQ2 sizes and configurations. In fact, a number of our Distribution and Retail Partners started to configure SQ2 sets themselves in order to stock them and sell them off-the-shelf”, says Karl H. Menzel, managing director of Sonor. “Based on the existing SQ2 sales statistics, we decided to offer the most popular SQ² finishes and configurations in our SQ² Pre-configured Program. Due to the slightly larger production batches, the sets are priced more attractive than a completely custom configured set”.

The SQ² Pre-configured Program has the following specifications:

Sonor Adds New Finish To Its Vintage Series

Sonor, one of the world’s leading drums and percussion manufacturers, today adds the ´Black Slate´ finish to its successful Vintage Series. ´Black Slate´ provides a unique look in any playing environment, pairing the authentic looks with a classic sound.

Sonor transformed the original Sonor sound, look & feel of the fabulous 50s, 60s and 70s drums into a contemporary concept: the Vintage Series. It offers great acoustic versatility, live or in the studio, allowing everything from thick rock grooves to delicate jazz rhythms. The Vintage Series comes in a variety of original wrap finishes, matching the authentic tear-drop style. At NAMM 2017, Sonor introduces ´Black Slate´, the latest addition to the Vintage series color palette.

“The original Sonor Teardrop style drums featured ´Perloid´ finishes in red, blue and white. Later black was added to the range”, says Karl H. Menzel, managing director of Sonor. “Today we bring back the magic of black in the authentic “slate” finish, a unique look in any playing environment. We match the authentic looks with the classic Sonor sound”.

Vintage Series - The analog sound in a digital world

Like the original Teardrop drums, the Vintage Series, introduced in 2015, feature hand-selected premium German Beech shells with rounded bearing edges. Sonor has carefully recreated the look & feel of the 1950´s teardrop lug and updated it with Sonor´s exclusive Tunesafe system. Being sure not to overlook any details, Sonor has redesigned the Superprofil triple flanged hoops and brought back the timeless Sonor badge and logo used in between 1952 and 1961. The hoop is an authentic remake of the hoop used on all Tom Toms, Floor Toms and Snare Drums built by Sonor until the 1970´s.

Vintage snare drums feature the `Super 50` throw off, a completely redesigned strainer that is inspired by the throw off used on the legendary Sonor D-411 and D-412 snares in the 1950´s. Vintage bass drums and shell sets are available with the re-issue of the classic ´iron´-shape bracket, which fits all Sonor single and double tom holders.
